Mike Hatchard -Cycling from Lands End to John O'Groats ... with a piano!

On the 29th June pianist and veteran Edinburgh Fringe performer Mike Hatchard set offto cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats – with a piano! Not a real piano (obviously) but nevertheless a fairly hefty electric piano on a purpose built trailer, quite an undertaking; and performing concerts along the way in every kind of venue ranging from village halls to theatres, raising money for BBC Children in Need

Mike plays all sorts of music ranging from jazz standards, some vintage ragtime, occasionally forays into classical music and songs by Victoria Wood, Tom Lehrer, Jacques Brel and David Bowie.

Mike is confident he can raise a great deal of money for a worthy cause. He is a gifted raconteur as well as an accomplished artist, a former musical director for Matt Monro he has also worked with the likes of Cleo Laine and John Dankworth, the Chamber Ensemble ofLondon and Herbie Flowers. He has performed his one man show on the Southbank (the Purcell Room) three times and is a published author and cartoonist (with Kevin Mayhew) as well as a Guild recording artist. In fact his career has been so diverse what more fitting way than to celebrate his sixtieth birthday!
