Maz O'Connor - Live in Concert (in association with Staveley Folk Club)

Maz O’Connor is a gifted singer of traditional and self-penned songs. In 2013 she was nominated for the BBC Folk Awards Horizon Award and selected for a creative fellowship with the English Folk Dance and Song Society at London’s Cecil Sharp House, funded by the BBC Performing Arts Fund. She sings both traditional folk songs and her own compositions, and accompanies her uniquely pure voice with guitar, shruti box (an idea she “nicked” off fellow folk artist Karine Polwart), piano and harmonium.

'Melodic originals such as The Singing of the Ocean and Nightcap are among the standouts of a set that mixes youthful delight with gravitas, and Derby Day is O'Connor's touching tribute to suffragette martyr Emily Davison. Folk album of the year thus far. ****' (The Observer)

'Densely rich album of thoughtful, meticulously constructed songs. ****'(The Financial Times)

'Maz O'Connor's ace, apart from her remarkable songwriting talent, is her captivating voice ****' (Q Magazine)

' strong traditional British and self-penned songs' (The Independent)

Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar - Live in Concert

Two time BBC Folk Award winners Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar met in 2011. Soon after the joining of the pair, the duo were signed to Fellside Records and in July 2012 released their debut album, The Queen’s Lover. Numerous tours followed as the duo developed and honed their stage craft, becoming one of the most sought after young acts on the English Folk Scene. “The press coverage and folk club reports have been glowing and rightly so” (R2 Magazine).

In January 2013, the pair picked up the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk award. Following the award win, Russell and Algar toured the country in April and, after completing school and University Exams in May, began touring again at the beginning of June - a schedule which saw them play venues and festivals such as Cambridge Folk Festival and Fairport’s Cropredy Convention as well as appearing live on Mark Radcliffe’s BBC Radio 2 Folk Show.

After recording their second album in the November of 2013, again with Fellside, Russell and Algar received the Horizon Award for Best breakthrough act at the 2014 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. The second album, The Call, was then released in July receiving 5 Stars in fRoots, 4 Stars in both R2 Magazine and The Telegraph and a host of other brilliant reviews , Bright Young Folk describing it as an “outstanding show of maturity” with “enormous promise”.

A very popular duo who are selling out venues everywhere - be sure to get your ticket asap by calling 01539 528 808.

Michael Chapman - Live in Concert

Michael Chapman - Live in Concert

Hull born Michael Chapman remains one of Britain's most underrated artists.  A superb and very individually styled guitarist and talented songwriter, he embraced jazz & the skiffle boom of the 50’s before encountering  players like Wizz Jones and Davey Graham who encouraged him to turn professional. His own confession to ‘Out-miserying Leonard Cohen’ is swiftly nullified by humorous anecdotes and stories. Michael's name sits comfortably alongside others of the same genre such as Bert Jansch and Davey Graham but the Fully Qualified Survivor  has that extra something that gives his playing that extra buzz.

This self-styled old white folky-blues guy from Yorkshire is one of the most under-rated heroes of our time. With his uniquely English melancholic perspective and emotive guitar style he deserves wider recognition. Think of  J.J Cale gargling gravel, mix in some Alabama backwater, a few pints of Hull, some slow burning, soulful lyrics and virtuoso guitar work and you have the swampy brew that is the essence of Michael Chapman.

MIchael Chapman is a very popular performer on the circuit and this event WILL sell out - be sure to get your ticket in advance by calling 01539 528 808.
